Robbery Attack: Ogun Police CP Orders Hawkers To Vacate Lagos-Ibadan Long Bridge


ABEOKUTA - Following the recent armed robbery attack along Kara bridge of Lagos - Ibadan expressway, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Bankole has ordered hawkers selling goods on the Lagos long bridge to quit with immediate effect.


The Commissioner gave the order on Thursday in a press release signed by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi.


The Police boss said this became necessary in view of the robbery activities occasioned by the construction work ongoing at Kara end of long bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.


Bankole explained that, some hoodlums pretending to be hawking goods on the bridge during traffic gridlock, using the opportunity to carry out operations.


He, therefore, directed the Command's tactical teams to move to the area and compliment the efforts of the divisional policemen in patrolling the area.


"In view of the road construction work going on at Kara end of long bridge along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, which gives hoodlums opportunity to be attacking innocent members of public on the long bridge, the commissioner of Police CP Lanre Bankole has directed the command's tactical teams to move to the area and compliment the efforts of the divisional policemen in patrolling the area.


"It has also been discovered that some of the hoodlums are pretending to be hawking goods on the bridge during traffic gridlock and using the opportunity to carry out robbery operations.


"To this end,the Command is  hereby using this medium to warn all those hawking goods on the bridge to quit with immediate effect to sanitize the environment and deter the criminals from perpetrating crime on that bridge and anywhere around.


"The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole who was on the said long bridge today for an on-the-spot assessment, therefore, assured members  of the public, especially the commuters plying the road of their safety as the command will do everything possible within the ambit of the law to flush out the hoodlums in the area."
