We'll Not Allow Moneybags To Hijack Accord Party, Denies Adopting Ogun ADC Guber Candidate - Secretary

Sir Tope Tokoya

By Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji

ABEOKUTA - The leadership of Accord Party in the Ogun State has denied adopting the governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka.

THE ENCOUNTER recalls that, Accord Party Chairman in the state, Elder Isiaka Amusa together with some party members on Monday adopted the ADC governorship candidate as their party candidate.

But the Publicity Secretary of Accord Party in the state, Asojuoba Michael Adesanya at a press conference held at NUJ Press Centre in Abeokuta on Thursday maintained that, Sir Tope Tokoya remains the party's governorship candidate.

Adesanya described the action of the party's Chairman, Elder Amusa as "simply political prostitution", saying they would not accommodate such character any longer.

He said there was never a time the State Working Committee (SWC) passed vote of no confidence on the candidature of Sir Tope Tokoya.

According to him, there was no resolution by the SWC of Executive decision to embark on adoption of any candidate from other political parties.

The Accord Party spokesman further explained that, the state Chairman alongside five other members of the party have been engaging in anti-party activities following the defeat of the chairman's "imaginary" candidate during the primaries of the party.

He therefore called party members to remain resolute and believe in the mandate of Tokoya, emphasizing that, the party would not allow moneybags politicians to hijack the structure of the party in the state.

"You will agree with me that this is not the best time for internal crisis within a political party and that is why we have continued to hesitate in acting against the few so called members of ACCORD who have continued to flout the constitution of our great party. There has never been any question that Pastor (Sir) Tope Tokoya is the elected gubernatorial candidate of ACCORD, and indeed this has been confirmed by INEC.

"We are in possession of various documents that confirm the anti party activities of a five-man group led by the State Chairman, Elder Isiaka Amusa, whose imaginary candidate lost out in the party primaries of our great party.

"Must one destroy his political party because he lost in a political party primary he organized? This group has continued to hawk the gubernatorial candidacy of our party to all the known political figures in Ogun state. They have met Akinlade/SIA, met Lado, met Paseda, met Buruji, met Dapo and they have continued to fail. Their newest victim is GNI.

"You will recall that about three weeks ago they openly declared for Dapo's faction of APC. This week they are declaring for GNI's ADC! This is simply political prostitution and we do not have room for such persons in our INTEGRITY built party, ACCORD."

Speaking on his quiet campaign strategy, the Accord Party governorship candidate, Sir Tope Tokoya said he did not believe in jamboree and flamboyant political campaign.

Tokoya stressed that, he had embarked on house-to-house campaign to convince the electorate on his seven-point agenda for the state.

He therefore denied collecting N100million from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the allegation as a means of the party chairman to justify his anti-party activities.
