COVID-19: Comply With OGSG Directives, Egba Group Advises Residents

ABEOKUTA - Egba Economic Summit (EES) has enjoined residents of Ogun State to align with advisory notes and efforts of the state government to curtail the spread of the global deadly disease, Coronavirus.

The group equally advised the residents to supply helpful information about true practices and actions that could stop human to human transmission of Coronavirus.

EES in a joint press statement signed by its President, Kehinde Sogunle and Vice President, Comrade Shina Luwoye commended Ogun state government and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the proactive measures taken so far.

The Egba group emphasized the need for self isolation by persons who just arrived in Nigeria from countries impacted by COVID-19, stressing the need for the people to report any persons who just arrived from overseas and suspected to have symptoms of coronavirus. 

It urged corporate organizations and employers of labour especially in Egbaland to take adequate measures to protect their employees and customers by making provisions for thermometers, hand sanitizers and encourage washing of hands.

"Events in the last few days have shown that the global coronavirus pandemic that has seriously affected economics, health and way of life globally has finally hit Nigeria. The pandemic statistics for our country has started to grow to alarming levels prompting actions by our governments, companies and citizens. 

"At this trying period, every organizations; social, religious, cultural, corporates etc, need to join the ongoing conversation and align with advisory notes and efforts to stem the pandemic by helping to deepen true and helpful information about true practices and actions that could stop human to human transmission of Coronavirus. 

"This global pandemic has ushered a new era of trade restrictions especially in primary agriculture and extractive industry. The impact is going to hit us sooner than we could imagine, it is therefore imperative that we protect our farmers and traders in the agricultural value chain from the effects of COVID-19. The gains we have made in Cassava and rice sufficiency should not be allowed to wither. 

"We implore our agric entrepreneurs to improve storage capacities and ensure food security for our people."
