ABEOKUTA - Ogun State Government has said that, the state is free from the pandemic deadly Coronavirus disease as all 40 quarantined contacts tested negative have been discharged.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker while briefing newsmen in Abeokuta on Friday said, the 40 victims who have contact with the Italian man have been allowed to reunite with their families.
Coker explained that, the index case was also doing well and would be discharged next week.
She advised individuals who have reasons to travel to high risk countries, to resort to self-isolation for 14 days and attend government health facility for check up.
She further added that, every individual should maintain two meters or five feet social distance from anyone with fever, difficulty in breathing, cough or anyone sneezing.
"As announced earlier by the Honourable Minister of Health, I wish to inform you that all 40 contacts of the index case under quarantine have tested negative to a series of tests for Coronavirus including the second positive case which was a contact of the index case.
"For this reason, they have all been allowed today to reunite with their families. The index case is also known to be doing well and soon to be discharged. We can safely state that COVID-19 is currently contained in Ogun State.
"However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared COVID-19 as a pandemic disease. It is important that we continue to observe high level of personal and respiratory hgyiene."
She however, urged the people to always endeavour to regular hand washing with soap and flowing water, saying in the absence of water, the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer should be resorted to.
