I Joined Armed Robbery To Fight Poverty – Suspect

ABEOKUTA - An armed robbery suspect from Cross Rivers State, Godwin Okoh has confessed his membership of a gang terrorising Ijebu-Ode/Ore/Benin Expressway in Ogun State.

Okoh, a student of Computer Science at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, said he joined armed robbery to fight poverty.

He said: “I was arrested because I was involved in an armed robbery. The robbery took place at the expressway in Ijebu.

“I went into robbery because of the hardship. I am a OND 2 student, Computer Science, at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, in Imo State”.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson, who paraded the suspect and four others said they were arrested at Odo-Epe via Ijebu-Ode during an operation conducted by men of the anti-robbery squad.

He said three one locally made pistol, three live cartridges, one cutlass, and two battle axes were recovered from the suspects.

“The Command received an information about robbery incident going on along Ijebu-Ode/Benin/Ore expressway, consequent upon which the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was activated to the scene where they met the hoodlums blocking road around the toll gate. The hoodlums were chased to Odo-Epe via Ijebu-Ode where five members of the gang were apprehended."

"We recovered three one locally made pistol, three live cartridges, one cutlass, and two battle axes from the suspects."

The Commissioner said other members of the robbery gang are Mathew Pius, Abraham Imoyera, Daniel Samuel and Emmanuel Sadeko.

Similarly, in another well-coordinated operation by personnel of the Tactical Squad, the command succeeded in arresting one Emmanuel Olatunbosun whom together with other gang members (now at large) were terrorising Obalende along Onigege Ara secondary school in Isara Remo robbing and dispossessing people of their valuables.
