ABEOKUTA - Some members of Labour Party in Ogun state on Friday have impeached the party chairman in the state, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi.
The members said the move became necessary following the setback experienced by the party in the last election as a result of crisis caused by political jobbers who hijacked the party.
The Acting Chairman of the party in the state, Comrade Adebayo Ogunsi who spoke to journalists at a press conference in Abeokuta said the decision to remove Arabambi was moved by the party's executive at Abeokuta North local government where the impeached chairman came from.
Ogunsi explained that, the impeachment was in accordance with article 13(6) B subsection V of the party constitution and was necessary to protect the unity and viability of the party in the state.
"Few years ago, Labour Party Ogun State experienced a major setback when some powers that be saw the party as a big threat to their inordinate ambitions thereby caused rifts and disharmony among some members of the party in Ogun state.
"However, it is pertinent to inform the general public that in view of bringing Labour Party of Ogun State back to its sound footing and reckoning, all actors from different factions of the party have agreed and decided to sheathe their sword, come together and save Labour Party from embarrassment, hatred and ridicule in whatsoever manner.
"Therefore, I, Prince Adebayo Ogunsi as the Acting State Chairman of Labour Party in Ogun State urge the government of Ogun State presently under the leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, the Press and general public to disregard Abayomi Arabambi who is parading himself as a Chairman in our great party and any other person or group of persons purported to represent the Labour Party in any capacity whatsoever, I also use this medium to congratulate all members of Labour Party in all the 20 local government of Ogun State for their patience and efforts in making sure that this feat is greatly achieved in our time."
In his reaction, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi described the purported impeachment as act of irresponsibility by the initiators.
Speaking with THE ENCOUNTER NEWS on telephone interview, Arabambi noted that, the acclaimed members of the party from Abeokuta North local government are unknown.
He claimed that, the authentic members of the party from the local government have distanced themselves from the fake impeachment.
"The Ogunsi that I know, is one of the gatemen of Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the failed Iperu-born PDP factional leader. And I'm also aware is one of their ward treasurer in their failed attempt last year to hijack that party (PDP) from their leader, Senator Buruji Kashamu.
"Well, as far as I know, Hon. Ladi Adebutu who in his attempt to use LP for his inordinate 2023 ambition has launched a 'political corovirus against my leadership and I'm up to the task. I will simply advice Hon. Adebutu and his political scavengers to go into self political isolation, so that they will not pollute the economy and political peace currently enjoyed in the state.
"Labour Party is too big for him to control. He should continue to fight with his leader if he believe he can wrestle the party from Senator Kashamu. Maybe Kashamu can consider him for Senate or House Representatives.
"I don't know them as members of Labour Party, but I know Ogunsi as a gateman at Ladi Adebutu's house."
The LP State Chairman's position it's a family heritage of Arabambi and he should simply leave the stage for unity and viability of the party, enough is enough! Besides his removal has nothing to do with Hon. Ladi Adebutu.
