ACP Chris Adeyeri welcoming the Chaplain, Skynet Rescue Corps to his command, Dr. Adeyeye Kehinde Adedigba |
ABEOKUTA - The Chaplain, Skynet Rescue Corps in Ogun state, Dr. Adeyeye Kehinde Adedigba has disclosed that, not less than 1,811 accident victims have been rescued by the Corps in two years.
Adeyeye disclosed this on Thursday during a visit to the Area Commander, Ilaro Police Divisional headquarters, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Chris Adeyeri.
The Rescue Corps Chaplain noted that, about 726 victims were survived among the accident victims rescued between 2018 and 2020.
Adeyeye equally added that cash amount of N235,000 was also recovered during the rescue operation in the year under review and had been returned to the owners with the assistance of Nigeria Police.
He explained that, the corps was primarily established in helping people during road accident or fire accident and complement the efforts of security agencies in saving lives of accident victims.
"In this organization, we are not competing with Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, NSCDC, Fire Service, VIO or TRACE, but we are working to support masses on the road in case of accident victims.
"We are working in support of the less privileged, and the people that have no power to encourage them by rescuing them. We are here in Ilaro to collaborate with the police in case of any accident around the town. They will carry the victims to the nearest general hospital and notify your officers or call you for notification of the scene of the accident."
Adeyeye therefore called on well meaning Nigerians to support the corps in ameliorating the challenges of the corps which include, lack of Hilux patrol vehicle to monitor and rescue accident victims to the hospital, shortage of Rescue personnel, lack of corporate office, fueling and maintenance of operation vehicle, among others.
Responding, the Area Commander, Ilaro Area Command, ACP Chris Adeyeri commended the Rescue Corps for their initiatives, saying policing and saving lives is everybody's business.
ACP Adeyeri called for collaborative effort between other sister agencies to support the rescue Corps.
He therefore enjoined the corps to be ready for sacrifice and render service to humanity.
The Rescue Corps also visited the DPO Ilaro Police Divisional headquarters, CSP Olayemi Jacob.
