ABEOKUTA - As non-contact sports resume across the country, Hoffnung Sports Foundation has donated racket games equipment to badminton and table tennis players in Ogun state.
The founder, Hoffnung Sports Foundation, a German-based former Nigerian Table Tennis player, Adedapo Akiode said the donation was in fulfillment of his determined efforts to give back to the society especially the kids who he described as leaders of tomorrow.
Akiode noted that, despite the effect of Covid-19, he was happy to make the donation possible as his annual contribution to sports development in the state in remembrance of his late father.
He commended the state government under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun for creating enabling environment which made it possible for a private sponsor to assist in developing sports.
The sports items included, table tennis and badminton equipment such as balls, rubbers, sneakers, jersey, among others were distributed to young athletes.
Also speaking at the presentation of the equipment, the Ogun state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Dr. Oludare Kehinde said sports development in the state requires the support of all stakeholders of different specialties.
The Commissioner represented by his Special Assistant, Shodeinde Olawale Oladimeji noted that the state government is keen about taking sports to the next level while assuring that Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration would hit the ground running with plans immediately sports is safe to return in Nigeria.
Similarly, the former Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Ogun state House of Assembly, Hon. Allen Taylor stated that Hoffnung Sports Foundation has continued to demonstrate passion towards developing grassroots sports in the Gateway state, appealing to well meaning Ogun Indigenes to key into the idea and take sports sector with all sense of seriousness.
