The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the next edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) will take place from January 16 to February 7 next year in Cameroon.
The tournament, which is exclusively for locally-based players, was scheduled to hold in April this year, but the coronavirus pandemic saw the event indefinitely postponed.
CAF, in a meeting of the executive committee, declared that the CHAN will be held early next year – 16 January to 7 February – in Cameroon.
The Central African country will use the CHAN as preparation for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which itself was postponed a year due to the pandemic.
CAF, in a statement on their website, added: “In addition, the 4th substitution rule in the event of extra time at the knockout stages of the competitions will be applied.
“The final tournament of the Total African Nations Championship Algeria 2022 will be rescheduled to January 2023. The exact dates are to be discussed with the Algerian Football Federation.”
