ABEOKUTA - The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba in Abeokuta, Ogun state, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu has opined that, the under construction radiotherapy services in the hospital would improve the quality of lives of cancer patients and end medical trip to foreign countries when completed.
Prof. Musa-Olomu gave the assurance in Abeokuta on Thursday when he led other management staff and union leaders of the hospital to perform the foundation laying of the edifice.
The Medical Director said the building project which is expected to be completed within the next six months will make FMC Abeokuta the first FMC in Nigeria to boast of Radiotherapy services.
He bemoaned the agony and sufferings cancer patients often undergo due to the limited health institutions in the Country with radiotherapy services that would have cushioned their pains.

Speaking further, the Medical Director remarked that Nigeria was moving towards a situation where medical tourism will gradually become a thing of the past.
Besides the radiotherapy project, the Medical Director disclosed that arrangements were being concluded for the establishment of an International Cardiac Centre in the hospital.
He also hinted that the full computerization of the hospital services system will take off within the next two weeks.
The union leaders who spoke at the brief but colourful event saluted the visionary leadership of the Medical Director and his relentless efforts to totally transform the Centre in a way at making it a pride of all.
