....Begins Construction Of Health Centre In Ago-Oba
ABEOKUTA - The Caretaker Chairman, Abeokuta South local government, Hon. Ayodeji Shomide has assured residents of Abeokuta South local government that, no project embarked upon by his administration would be left uncompleted before the expiration of his tenure.
Shomide equally assured residents of Oke-Egunya and Ago-Oba community of speedy completion of the ongoing Primary Health Centre under construction in the area.
The council chairman was joined by the Ogun State Commissioners for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Afolabi Afuape, Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, and Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe at the foundation laying ceremony on Tuesday.
The soft spoken council boss noted that, the construction of the hospital would be completed in three months time to assuage the hardship the people of the community went through for medical services.
He said his administration remained resolute to deliver on the promises to better the lots of the people at the grassroots inspite of the meager resources at his disposal.
He explained that, the new Primary Health Centre became necessary as the existing five health centres in the local government area could not meet the health care needs of the people especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He added that, the gesture was to complement effort of the state government in the health sector.

"Our few months in office have witnessed unprecedented evolvement of series of projects aim at enhancing social well being of our people. These projects are borne out of the needs of people upon wider consultation and deliberation with major stakeholders.
"We have been working relentlessly to increase the number of Primary Health Care in our local government to accommodate the needs of our teeming populace.
"We have five health Centres in the local government area and we discovered that they cannot meet the health needs of our populace especially in this period of covid-19 pandemic ND other diseases, that is why we felt health facility should be constructed closer to the people so that they do not need to travel far to access health services."
Shomide therefore, appealed to the Commissioner for Health in the state to assist in equipping the Health Centre with the state of the arts facilities upon completion.
Responding, the Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Tomi Coker promised the state government support, saying government would ensure the hospital is well equipped.
