ABEOKUTA - The joint heads of security agencies in Ogun State have observed with great concern the rising rates of cultist clashes among groups in some parts of the state, and have decided to clamp down more heavily on the perpetrators and their accomplices, as security agencies will not be watching while some unscrupulous elements make life unbearable for citizenry.
This was agreed upon at a joint meeting by the security agencies held in Abeokuta on Thursday.
The meeting appraised various security challenges in the state and once again resolved to tackle them head-on, especially during yuletide and New Year celebrations.
The meeting also observed with dismay the incessant attacks on security personnel while performing their legitimate duties.
This was contained in a press release signed the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta on Thursday.
Oyeyemi said, "It is therefore resolved that attack on any security operatives under any guise will no longer be tolerated as such act will be met with appropriate force permitted under the law to manage violence.
"The meeting also noted the rising cases of smuggling in the border areas of the State resulting in violent confrontations with security agencies which at times lead to fatalities.
"It also notes that the Federal government recently reopened four international borders, but that none of the four is here in Ogun State. Therefore international borders in the State remain closed, and security operatives will continue to enforce the order and use every means at its disposal to discourage smuggling in the state.
"The meeting reminds the members of the public that ban on the use of fireworks and street carnival is in force and security agencies will enforce it to the letter.
"It was jointly resolved that security agencies in the State will continue to work together in waging war against crime and criminality in order to ensure peace and tranquility in every parts of Ogun State, and to sustain its status as one of the most peaceful States in the Country.
Parents are therefore advised to warn their wards to desist from any act capable of undermining the peace of the State as such will be met with stiff resistance."
