ABEOKUTA - End of the road for a ‘self-confessed’ notorious cultist and murderer, Owolabi Oludipe alias Somori, on Sunday as he was gunned down in a cross-fire with the policemen in the Odogbolu division of Ogun State.

The suspected criminal who had been on the wanted list of the Command was sighted at Ita-Ado area of Odogbolu where he and his fellow Aiye cult group were planning another attack in the community, and a distress call was made to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Odogbolu division, who mobilized his men and moved to the scene.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that a distress call was placed to the DPO Odogbolu Division, who mobilised his men and dashed to the scene.

Sighting the policemen, the gang engaged them in a shoot out, consequence upon which their leader “Somori” was shot and injured; while others escaped into the bush with their operational weapons.

Police says ‘ Somori’ was quickly taken to hospital, but died while receiving treatment.

Information has it that the deceased had been on wanted list of the Command in connection with killings of one Runsewe Segun a Civil Defence Officer who was murdered in cold blood on the 14th of November 2020 and one Sunday Kayode Adegbuyi who was also killed on the 16th of February 2020.

“He was also responsible for the killing of a rival Eiye cult group leader by name Shoyombo Sanyaolu Fakoya on the 11th of November 2020 during a supremacy battle between the two groups.

“He confessed to all the killings on the hospital bed before he gave up the ghost.

“Recovered from him are assorted charms which he wore all over his body, two live cartridges and a mobile phone.

It would be recalled that another notorious serial killer terrorizing Ijebu-Ode and its environs had earlier been neutralized by operatives of the command early last month in similar circumstance.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward A. Ajogun has commended his men for their gallantry and ordered that efforts should be intensified to apprehend the rest of the gang members.

He also directed 24 hours surveillance of the town and its environs in order to checkmate the activities of hoodlums in the area.

The Police boss also reiterated that the battle against cultists in the State will be a continuous exercise until cultism and other vices are stamped out in all parts of the State.
