A fear-shaken Fathia Williams |
ABEOKUTA - But for mother-luck, a veteran Nollywood Star actress, Fathia Williams, on Monday narrowly escaped a fatal accident in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while trying to avoid a collision with a reckless commercial motorcyclist.
The incident happened early morning of Monday along OPIC - Iwe-Irohin House road, Abeokuta on her way to a location for film shooting.
The actress who was driving in her Toyota 4Runner with Ogun State registration number; GBE 573 AA and coming from OPIC roundabout direction signaled to enter Iwe-Irohin Press Centre, Abeokuta, but the commercial cyclist in an apparent oblivion, didn't notice it on time.
Our reporter who witnessed the scene, hinted that in a bid to avoid knocking down the bike man and running him over, Fathia instinctively pressed the break pedal that let out a near interminable screeching sound as she struggled to steady the jeep without veering into the drainage system by the entrance to Iwe-Irohin.
Panic -striken passers - by and some occupants of Iwe-Irohin complex rushed out to ascertain what had happened and who were involved.
The anxious curious eyewitnesses were only relieved when they saw the actress and her Personal Assistant coming out of jeep unhurt; and the motorcyclist having been saved, sped off.
When asked to comment on safe escape from frightening incident, a visibly shaking Fathia said " It is a Monday morning, I don't want talk but I thank God (for saving us)."
She thereafter entered one of the food restaurants at the Iwe-Irohin premises and ordered for a bowl of rice with Egusi soup and a plastic bottle of soft drink.
