Remmy Hazzan Tasks Information Officers in Ogun To Exploits Social Media Opportunities

Information Officers in the Ogun State Civil Service have been called upon to effectively explore all available media, especially the social media, in the discharge of their statutory duties.

The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Public Communication, who doubles as the Chairman, State Meida Analysis Team (SMAT), Hon. Remmy Hazzan made the call in Abeokuta when he led other members of the team to the Office of the Head of Service.

The visit was part of efforts at ensuring that effective dissemination of the activities, programmes and policies of government in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to the general public are enhanced.

According to him, deploying the social media to disseminate government's activities give the events unspeakable and unquantifiable mileage as against the conventional ways of information dissemination, urging the officers to perform their own bits of the entire pack, called governance, in order to make it the cynosure of all eyes.

He stated further that the essence of the visit was to ascertain that the rate of events happening in the State is commensurate with what the publics are fed with, and to ensure that all the activities get the desired attention so that effective, adequate and commensurate results are achieved.

"SMAT is visiting to carry out statutory media oversight in allq MDAs of government with the aim of repositioning government activities and ensuring that more value is added to governance in the way events are reported. It is not to judge anyone, put anyone on the spot or cast aspersions on anyone, but to ensure that there is no information gloat in the system" Hon. Hazzan said.

Hon. Hazzan also solicited for more synergy and cooperation between the Information Officers and Management of the Office of the Head of Service, noting that it is when there is cordial relationship that the set goals of propagating government's activities well can be achieved without hitch.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Dahunsi Ogunleye, who received the team on behalf of the Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun, threw his weight behind the SMAT, added that the larger publics deserve to know at all times what the government is embarking upon via the Civil Service and pledged the unalloyed support and cooperation of the agency to the team, with a promise to improve for the best.

Earlier, the Secretary of the team, who is also the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr Lanre Ogunyinka said SMAT was in place to ensure that Information Officers were performing optimally and records of activities properly kept in their various MDAs.
