Nigerian Army Embark On Free Medical Outreach In Ogun

 


ABEOKUTA-  As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to its host community, the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Alamala, Ogun State, on Thursday  flagged off free medical outreach in the state.


The exercise which kicked off in Ijebu-North local government area of the state, will be extended to other parts of the state.


While addressing newsmen, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Adewole Adekoya said, it has become mandatory for the army to exercise a civil-military relation activity with civilians as it will foster healthy relationship between the military and residents.


Describing the activity as 'Civil-Military Co-operation' (CIMIC), Gen. Adekoya maintained that, the exercise was aimed at ensuring a healthy and harmonic relationship with people.


He said, "this is part of an effort in ensuring a cordial relationship between the Brigade and the residents".


The civil-military activity included: awareness against drug abuse, cultism, fraudulent activities, free basic medical outreach and recruitment into the Army.


In his address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Lawrence Fejokwu said that the activity was organized to maintain a peaceful relationship with the residents.


He said that, "we are using this outreach to show you the beauty of living in harmony."


He emphasized that, the exercise became necessary following attacks on some military checkpoints in the country.


He stressed that the attacks stimulated their decision to come to the grassroot to relate with them and let them know that the military and the civilians can live harmoniously without any form of violence.


Also speaking at the occasion, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) team leader, Mrs. Eucharia Ugo lamented the high consumption of illicit drugs by the youths.


She reiterated that consumption of illegal drugs are injurious to the physical, psychological and emotional well-being of the consumers.


She therefore, urged the youths to desist from consumption of hard drugs.
