ABEOKUTA - The Ogun State Councils of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress thrown their weights behind the reappointment of Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu for a second term as the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The two unions in their separate letters, acknowledged the giant strides made by the former Medical Director of the Centre especially in the peaceful industrial relations during his first term.
NLC, in the letter signed by its Chairman, Emmanuel Bankole and Acting Secretary, Ayuba Olatunji addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, The Chief of Staff to the President, the Minister of Health and Minister of State of health, and others, described as disgruntled elements, those who were opposed to the re-appointment of Musa-Olomu.
According to the letter dated June 2, 2021, copies of which were obtained by journalists, the NLC recalled the 'inglorious role they (disgruntled elements) played four years ago by instigating all the in-house unions to reject the appointment of Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu then.'
According to the union, malicious lies, misinformation, distortion of facts and outright blackmail was deployed by the same people before the intervention of the NLC and subsequent resolve of the unions to work with Musa-Olomu.
The union described the tenure of Musa-Olomu as the most peaceful and beneficial not only to the staff but also to the indigenes and residents of Ogun State, saying it was the first time in four years that NLC has not been invited for industrial dispute in the Center.
It also advised the federal government not to allow 'agents of confusion and darkness' to draw the wheel of progress in the hospital backward by throwing the Centre into crisis.
It maintained that those who were against the re-appointment of the Medical Director are retrogressive elements, though few according to it, but loud with enormous resources being deployed for their unpatriotic actions.
"It is our considered opinion, based on facts and information available to us that Prof. A.A. Musa-Olomu has performed creditably by transforming and repositioning the Center in the last four years under his watch and so deserve another term to consolidate the good work that he has started in the Center.
"It is on tape and well reported the commendation in glowing terms by the Governing Board of the Centre which culminated in its recommendation for his re-appointment for another term before it summersaulted to invalidate its own decision, under a questionable circumstances, laden with speculation of some unwholesome transaction."
NLC maintained that the Board has yielded to the dictates of the enemy of the progress within and outside the Center, calling on the FG to dissolve the board as it has overstayed its usefulness.
"Olomu has served humanity conscientiously, diligently and meritoriously to the satisfaction of residents and indigens of Abeokuta, he deserves to be given an opportunity of second term to consolidate the good job he has started," NLC stated.
The TUC on its own part said, apart from industrial harmony, the Centre under Musa-Olomu was able to improve on the delivery of its core mandates to the public.
It also described as strange, the u-turn by the Board of the Center on the re-appointment of Musa-Olomu adding that the same Board has sang praises of the Medical Director at various public gatherings and through sponsored programmes in the media in to distance a time.
"Sir, it is on the basis that we have thus decided to lend our voices to the recommendation for his re-appointment for a second terms, the politicising of the process notwithstanding," TUC added.
