Don't Limit Your Political Career To Council Chairman, Alake Tells Shomide

Shomide with the Alake of Egbaland

ABEOKUTA - The Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo has advised the Chairman, Transition Committee of Abeokuta South local government, Hon. Ayodeji Shomide not to limit his political career to just local government chairman, but seek for more elective posts.

The Alake further told Shomide not to be discouraged by APC's inability to chose him as the party Chairmanship candidate for the July 24, 2021 local government elections in Ogun state.

Oba Gbadebo stated this on Friday while receiving the OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu in company of Hon. Shomide in his palace at Ake, Abeokuta.

The Egba monarch noted that, the first civilian Governor, Chief Bisi Onabanjo was formerly a local government Chairman before becoming the state Governor in 1979.

"Don't underrate yourself, don't limit your political career to council chairman alone. You have done well, and it is someone like you we need at the top.

"Don't repeat the same mistake Chief Bisi Onabanjo did. Chief Bisi Onabanjo was formerly a local government chairman before he was elected Governor. You can also emulate that, and build this city. But before you leave office, I will still give you the Chieftaincy title you're running away from."

He however, commended Hon. Shomide for his achievements and developmental projects spread across the local government within two years.

Some of Shomide led administration achievements include, construction of primary health centre, Oke Egunya, Ago Oba, Construction of Shopping Complex, Kemta Itoku, Development of New Itoku shopping Market, Itoku, Open Stall at Asero and Olorombo markets, and public toilet at isale ijeun
