ABEOKUTA - The National Community Ethics and Value Environmental Corps (NCEVECC) has decorated no fewer than 63 officers with new ranks.
Decorating the new officers, the Ogun State Commander of NCEVECC, Mr. Onilu Obasanjo-Johnson said the ceremony became necessary to have cadre among the officers.
Commander Onilu disclosed this on Friday at the decoration ceremony held at Premier Grammar School, Lafenwa, Abeokuta.
He said the new officers would help the state command to ensure cleanliness of the environment and crime free society.
Onilu who expressed worry over high rate of social vices and environmental pollution in Ogun state, urged the newly officers to educate, create awareness and enlightened the society on how to manage waste in order to overcome flood challenges in Ogun.
He also noted that, the new officers would be posted to schools to inculcate ethics and moral values to the students to reduce immorality in the society.
"We are decorating the new officers to have cadre within the command. The new officers will be posted to local government areas to oversee activities of their respective local government, while the Deputy will supervise the junior officers on the field during the environmental sanitation and to control indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the society.
"We all know what the society is facing today. When you look at our environment, you will discover that, many things are going wrong, children in secondary schools involve in cultism, we need to look back and check the parents maybe the fault is from the parents l or the teachers, because many of them don't know how to handle these children, that is why NCEVECC is coming in. You will see some of our officers in schools to create awareness and
"So we need to change people's orientation, that's why some people put heads together to create this organization and to teach ethics among our children.
"Likewise, this indiscriminate of dumping refuse which which know can cause fire hazard, blockage of drainages and blocking the drainage can lead to flood or damage of roads, that's why you've been seeing our men, working with OGWAMA and other sister agencies.
"Presently, we have 85 officers who have been promoted with different ranks today. We are begging the state government to mobilize our officers with wages and office accommodation so that they can perform optimally."
Meanwhile, not less than five Superintendent of Environment officers, 29 Deputy Superintendent of Environment and 21 Environment Inspectors were decorated with new ranks.
