Daily Champion gathered that, a fully loaded PMS laden tanker overturned around due to the axle problem while making its way inbound Mile 2/Rounder axis area of Lafenwa, Abeokuta and spilled its content in the process.

According to the TRACE PRO, Babatunde Akinbiyi, while officials of the State Fire Service and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) were transloading the content, some members of the public were scooping fuel, preventing the safety officers from successfully performing their duties which regrettably sparked off the fire.

Akinbiyi stressed further that, two lives were lost in the unfortunate inferno, that of a grandmother and grandchild, whose gender cannot be ascertained, while property worth millions of naira were destroyed.

He said the bodies of the 2 casualties have been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.

“The earlier reported tanker laden with fuel which overturned while making its way inbound Rounder from Oju-Irin, Lafenwa, is now engulfed in fire, due to the uncooperative attitude of people around the axis through scooping of fuel and other unwholesome act which sparked off the fire”.

However, two patrol vans belonging to TRACE Divisional Command, Abeokuta, and two heavy-duty vehicles belonging to the Federal and State Fire Service, were also vandalized, with some of both Services operatives (TRACE & FIRE SERVICE), also assaulted during the rescue operation.
