Ogun Police Warns 'Factional' Motorcycle Unions To Desist From Disrupting Public Peace


ABEOKUTA - Police in Ogun state have warned some group of people allegedly claiming to be factional members of motorcycle unions in the state to desist from causing trouble.


The police in a press release issued in Abeokuta during the week by the command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said it has been brought to the notice of the Command that some people without legal backing were trying to breach public peace through protest.


Oyeyemi warned that anybody caught fomenting trouble in the state shall face the full wrath of the law.


He noted that the motorcycle unions that passed through the normal legislative procedure and are legally recognized in the State are; Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association Of Nigeria  (ACOMORAN), Articulated Motorcycle Riders Association Of Nigeria  (AMORAN), and Rider and owner of motorcycle organization (ROMO).


"Ogun State Police Command has uncovered a clandestine move by some disgruntled elements to infiltrate the motorcycle  Union and cause breach of public peace. The group is claiming to be a faction of one of the legally recognized motorcycle union in the State without any legal backing.


"In view of this, the Command wishes to reiterate its commitment to maintain peace and order as well as protection of life and properties of the good and law abiding citizens of the State.


"The motorcycle unions that passed through the normal legislative procedure and legally recognized in the State are; Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association Of Nigeria  (ACOMORAN), Articulated Motorcycle Riders Association Of Nigeria  (AMORAN) and Rider and owner of motorcycle organization (ROMO) Anybody or group claiming to be a faction of any of the above-mentioned unions with the aim of causing pandemonium in the State will face the full weight of the law.


"As an organization saddled with responsibility of maintaining law and order, we will not fold our arms while some faceless group will be making life difficult for the good people of the state.


"The Command, therefore, wishes to assure the good people of Ogun State of adequate security at all time while going about their lawful businesses."
