ABEOKUTA - A socio cultural group, Aviary Association Worldwide, Gateway chapter has condemned the recent spate of cult clashes and killings in Ogun state capital, and some other areas of the state.
The group's Public Relations Officer, Prince Babatunde Oyekan disclosed this on Saturday while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta the state capital.
According to him, hooliganism and cultism should not be a way of life and must be discouraged.
He said that the loss of human lives as a result of the bloody violent cult clashes was worrisome, calling on the security agencies to fish out the masterminds of the killings and ensure they face the full wrath of law.
“We condemn in totality the incessant cult clashes which has claimed several lives in the state. It is barbaric and inhuman to kill fellow human beings under any guise.
“The spate of unrest and activities of cultists have instilled phobia in the residents with residents finding it difficult to sleep with two eyes closed,”
While commending the Security Agencies especially the Nigeria Police for their swift responses and arrests of numerous suspects so far, the group also called for additional beef up of security in the state, most especially the flashpoints, to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
He said that government’s commitment to security of lives and property of its citizens was non-negotiable and must be guaranteed.
While praying for the repose of the souls of the victims who lost their lives to the cult clashes, the group urged Gov. Dapo Abiodun to take proactive measures to check the activities of secret cults and other criminals in the state.
