ABEOKUTA - The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Tolu Odebiyi, on Saturday afternoon claimed that he is the only person in the race for the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Odebiyi who hails from Iboro town in Ogun West is battling for a return ticket of the APC to the senate.
He arrived at the venue of the primary around 12:48 pm with some of his supporters tailing behind, expressing the confidence that he will triumph at the primary.
The Senator made this known while speaking with reporters inside Orona Hall shortly after he arrived at the venue.
He noted that each of the two other aspirants - Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade and three-time governorship candidate in the state, Prince Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka (GNI) had stepped down days earlier to take up House of Representatives tickets respectively.
However, the atmosphere changed around 1:28 pm when his main challenger, Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola, arrived amid a rousing welcome by a crowd of supporters, who bombed him with affections.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Solomon Adeola (YAYI) expressed confidence that heeding the calls of his people to return home would bring more blessings to the zone.
Over 293 delegates cutting across five local government areas in Ogun West are expected to cast their votes at the primary where Dr. Dapo Odukoya is chairman of the APC Senatorial Primary Committee.
Already the panel or Committee to conduct the Senatorial primary is on the ground same for necessary materials, observers, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security agents to monitor and supervise the exercise.
In Ogun East comprising nine local government areas, the incumbent Senator Lekan Mustapha is going to shrug it out this afternoon with a frontline contender to the seat and former governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
Unofficial information has it that two paramount rulers, Awujale of Ijebuland and Akarigbo of Remoland have all agreed to cede the senatorial ticket to the Remo axis of the Senatorial district, all suggesting that Mustapha will step down for Daniel whose ancestral line cuts across Remo and Ijebu.
In Ogun Central, Shuaib Salisu, who is the Chief of Staff to governor Dapo Abiodun, is expected to clinch the APC Senate ticket and hopefully, succeeds Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who is battling to get the presidential ticket of the party.
