Workers Day: Ogun Labour Unions Visit Motherless Home, Donate Food Items, Toiletries

ABEOKUTA - Labour unions in Ogun State under the aegis of Joint Negotiating Council JNC have visited the Stella Obasanjo motherless babies home, in the spirit of love, humanity, and part of activities lined up to celebrate this year's Workers Day.

The civil servants in their large numbers besieged the home in Abeokuta, the State capital, to donate food items and toiletries among other items; the gesture was part of the union's core values of reaching out to the vulnerable and less privileged people in the society. 

They also interacted warmly with the children and also charged the staff not to be discouraged in caring for the wards, stressing that the Almighty God will reward them accordingly.

While speaking with newsmen shortly after the donation, the Chairman of the State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), 

Comrade Isa Olude explained that the gesture was necessary to show love and give hope to the children of the Home.

He added that the donation was to lift the spirit of the children and also made them feel a sense of belonging in society.

He assured that the civil servants in the State would continue to extend hands of kindness to the wards at the home. 

His words: "We are here today in the spirit of May Day to show love, and reassure the kids at this Stella Obasanjo Children's Home that, when there is life there is hope. We want them to feel a sense of belonging, we want them to know they are part of our society".

"We are here to donate food items and toiletries, it is a way of telling them that, we care for them irrespective of their situation and we will continue to do this."

The Chairman, however, implored well-meaning Nigerians, politicians, and other concerned stakeholders to see vulnerable children and the less privileged as a critical part of the nation's economy; whose future must be protected.  

He said this can only be achieved, when everyone rallies around them, to give them a sense of belonging, through regular encouragement, and constant donations to look after their wellbeing. 

Elated by the gesture, the management of the home, thanked the donors and prayed that God would continue to bless them.

Prayers were also offered for the children, Ogun State, and the country at large.
