Adebutu To Showunmi, Others: Join Me In Rescuing Ogun From APC Misrule

ABEOKUTA - The Governorship candidate of People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu has urged former aspirants who lost the party’s primaries to join him in rescuing the state from the “misrule” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.

Adebutu had equally summoned an emergency meeting of all former aspirants, for Monday, with a view to fostering unity and cohesion ahead of next elections.

The PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, said it is his turn to emerge as the governor of the state come 2023.

Ladi stated this on Friday at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, the state capital, while addressing party leaders and stalwarts during presentation of certificate of return to Senate, House of Representatives, and the House of Assembly candidates.

Both Adebutu and Segun Sowunmi have been laying claims to the party’s ticket following parallel primaries conducted on May 25 in Abeokuta.

However, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had earlier this week presented a certificate of return to Adebutu, thereby recognizing him as the candidate of the party in the state.

Adebutu appealed to his contenders and other aspirants who lost out in the primaries to burry the hatchet and work together with him to improve the chances of the party at reclaiming the state in the 2023 election.

He insisted that he was determined at fostering unity in the party by working with all the aggrieved members, saying a divided party cannot win at the general election.

Adebutu said, “I’m determined to bring everybody onboard because those that have won the primaries, won not because they are the best and not because they have the total number of votes, so those that lost out must not be left behind that is why I’m determined to always carry everybody along and I think that is the beauty of PDP.

“We are not known for imposing. I think we have successfully managed well democratically and we are still managing the situation.

“We must endeavor to have a big happy family so that we can face the challenges at hand. We recognised that we are still in the opposition and the work at hand is extensive and we know the antics of the mis-governance of the APC, we are hoping to take over power from them come 2023.

“It only behooves us that PDP should be recognized as the fountain of hope for Nigeria. This is the fountain that can bring development to this state. We told them, they didn’t hear that is why we are telling you know we will pursue, meet and recover.

“Four years ago, they thought they did us bad, they snatched it and gave ‘Eleyi’. When they confessed that it was snatched and given to Eleyi. What can he do with the position? They saw that he can do nothing with the position; he spoilt the school system, he spoilt hospital, spoilt the roads,

“They have said it all, those who went astray are returning by themselves. If we see anyone that is angry, I beg you, don’t commit suicide because of me.

“Ladi is not fighting anyone, we are all PDP, we all own this secretariat and this secretariat has no key. It is right to wrestle for something. A good home will have many children fighting to be king but when a king is pronounced, others will accept. I am the next, let me do it, it is my turn. It will be someone else’s turn when I’m done.

“This work is plenty, we need a larger family to win. There is space for those that have participated, they are not a minus, we need them. We will call an emergency meeting with all aspirants on Monday. We will reconcile with everybody that bought the form, we will appeal to them to the best of our ability and the family shall continue,” he added.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of PDP in the State, Sikirulai Ogundele, represented by the Ogun East Senatorial PDP Chairman, Arch. Kayode Adebayo said Adebutu’s emergence deserves thanksgiving.

He however called on party members to unite and be disciplined for party building.

“If you know where we are coming from, you will know that today is a day of thanksgiving. We have been on this since 2011 and Ladi Adebutu has volunteered all that he has to support the party for the last seven years.

“We lack discipline and that must be restored. We need to come together irrespective of your position and be a party worker, be part of the [party building. Your offices have no meaning until we are in government, it is then that somebody like myself can boldly say that I am the chairman of a sitting senator.”
