SWAN Applauds Gov. Abiodun For Constituting Boards For Sports Associations In Ogun


ABEOKUTA - Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has been commended for the composition of boards for 36 Sports Associations in the state.


The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State chapter disclosed gave the commendation on Friday at their month of August Congress held at the SWAN Secretariat, MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.


The sports writers in a communiqué issued at the end of the Congress noted that, the appointment of the new board members was timely as the state prepares for another National Sports Festival in billed to hold in Delta State in November, this year.


The Congress urged the board members to work toward repositioning Sports in the state.


SWAN, therefore, enjoined the state government to formally welcome and compensate the Ogun state contingents to the just concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom led by Gold medalist, Tobi Amusan and Bronze medalist, Isau Ogunkunle, as well as the contingent to the last National Sports Festival in Edo state.


The Association equally urged the government to support the newly constituted Sports Association towards the forthcoming National Sports Festival.


The Association commended the Federal Government for the 10-year development plan for football, and urged the government to ensure full implementation of the plans even after the expiration of the current administration.


The Congress charged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Board to work towards making the next NFF election hitch-free by providing a level playing ground for all contestants as a stepping stone to actualizing the FG's 10-year development plan for football.


"The Congress commended the Ogun State Government for constituting the boards of 36 Sports Associations and urged the board members to work towards repositioning Sports in the state. 


"The Congress urged the Ogun State Government to formally welcome and compensate the Ogun State contingent to the just concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom, led by Gold medalist, Tobi Amusan and Bronze Medalist, Isau Ogunkunle, as well as the contingent to the last National Sports Festival in Edo State. The Congress also charged the government to work hand in glove with the newly constituted Sports Associations towards the forthcoming National Sports Festival. 


"The congress thanked participants of the Second Edition of the SWAN Security & Safety Cup; The Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, DSS, TRACE, Nigeria Immigration, Nigeria Customs Service, NSCDC, Nigerian Correctional Service, Amotekun, So-Safe Corps, Vigilante Group of Nigeria and The Fire Service, wishing them best of luck in the forthcoming competition. 


"The Congress commended the Ogun State Government, Media Houses in the state, Lado Group, Value Jet and Pelican Valley Estate for their tremendous support towards the forthcoming SWAN Security & Safety Cup, calling on more individuals and corporate organisations to be part of the competition which seeks to foster unity and camaraderie among security agencies in the state.


"The Congress condoled with the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Engr Olayiwola Abiodun over the demise of his wife, praying the Lord Almighty to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss."
