ABEOKUTA - The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Commander Clement Oladele has assured motorists and commuters along Lagos/Ibadan expressway of free vehicular movement.
Oladele equally advised the motorists plying the corridor to exercise patience and drive cautiously within the construction area and strictly adhere to the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2012, that prescribed maximum speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour at construction zones.
The Sector commander warned motorists to avoid driving against traffic as violators are liable to be prosecuted.
He made this plea on Wednesday in a press release signed by the sector's Public Education Officer, Florence Okpe and made available to THE ENCOUNTER news.
Oladele said the plea became imperative following the incessant gridlocks and breakdown of articulated vehicles occasioned by the ongoing rehabilitation of the Mowe/Ibafo highway by Julius Berger.

He noted that, the indiscipline by some reckless drivers to drive against traffic has also affected commuters in the axis.
He further added that, during the period of managing the traffic, some other trucks suffered overheating problems and broke down, but the sector and other sister traffic emergency agencies would intensify efforts to remove those trucks from the corridor to restore traffic.
Commander Oladele however assured motorists that the command would work with the construction company on introducing additional measures to cushion the undergoing hardship as a result of the company to speed up rehabilitation work and also open up areas that have been fairly completed for public use.
"The Lagos - Ibadan Expressway, West Africa's busiest road corridor , has witnessed sporadic gridlocks this week due to incessant infractions occasioned by frequent breakdowns of majorly articulated vehicles ,which is coumpounded by the ongoing rehabilitation of the corridor by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, which has narrowed the lanes available on the Expressway, especially between Magboro /Ibafo axis to the Mowe sections of the road.
"Commutter activities along the corridor have also affected motorisation, coupled with traffic indiscpline by some reckless drivers that take advantage of gridlicks to attempt driving against traffic.
"The Federal Road Safety Corps Ogun State Command wishes to inform the motoring public that the past few days have been characterised with infractions that distorted the free flow of traffic. For instance a crash was recorded on Saturday 30 March 2019 within the construction area and another crash occured the following day which involved articulated trucks.
"These happened at diversion areas where construction is ongoing making it difficult to divert traffic during evacuation of the trucks and their contents.
"These occurrences therefore snarled traffic that had to be managed for a duration of time, after the propmt clearance of the obstructions by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps in collaboration with sister traffic and emergency agencies.
"The FRSC is working in concert with the construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC on introducing additional measures to cushion the hardship motorists are undergoing as a result of the construction efforts, including encouraging the construction company to speed up rehabilitation work and also open up areas that have been fairly completed for public use."
