FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor Calls For Stability, Harmony Among Ogun Journalists

ABEOKUTA - Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Felix Kolawole Salako has charged journalists in Ogun state to always thrive to work in harmony and steadfast in discharging their duty. 

The Vice-Chancellor who is also Patron, Ogun state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) gave the charge while receiving members of Caretaker Committee of the union in the state who came on a courtesy visit to his office on Monday.

Prof. Salako urged members of the union to consider working in the interest of the union rather than personal gain. 

He commended the Caretaker committee headed by Comrade Kayode Taiwo for displaying maturity and diligence in brokering peace among aggrieved members of the union in the state. 

He added that, Ogun state council of NUJ being the cradle of journalism should be the standard bearer for Nigerian journalists. 

"We are concerned by what is happening in Ogun NUJ. There should be stability. I pray that the division in the union in the state come to an end, so that, there will be stability and harmony in the union. 

"If the aggrieved parties really consider the interest of union, I don't see reason why this crisis should be dragged for long like this, or what does it take to be in power?", the VC queried. 

He continued, "I want to commend the Caretaker committee for displaying maturity and high level of enlightenment in managing the situation. The ultimate goal is harmony.

"Ogun NUJ should be standard land bearer for Nigerian journalists when we talk of journalism in Nigeria. Ogun state should be the headquarters of NUJ being the cradle of journalism in Nigeria."

Earlier, the Chairman, Ogun NUJ Caretaker committee, Comrade Kayode Taiwo congratulated the Vice Chancellor on the success of the 27th convocation anniversary of the University. 

Comrade Taiwo who apprised the VC of the union's President visit to the state, assured the institution of the union's support at all times.
