ABEOKUTA - Inmates at the lepers colony at Iberekodo in Abeokuta on Thursday appreciated the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief Alaba Lawson for her kind gesture aims at cushioning the suffering of the people during the sit-at-home order by the federal government.
The leader of lepers colony, John Ojoawo in his remarks said Iyalode has remain a source of joy for the inmates, adding that, the palliatives she brought in the wake of the coronavirus, was not new or news to them.
Ojoawo affirmed that the gestures have remained regular benefits for them coming from the Iyalode, and expressed profuse appreciation for considering them again as the lockdown against coronavirus lasted.
"Iyalode has been a source of joy for us. She even facilitates many donors for us here, and we remain grateful to her and pray that God will continue to bless and enrich her. She is a woman who has passion for welfare of others", he stated.
A female inmate, Falilat Odunawo while speaking pointed out that Lawson is a good mother, who is always with them at the colony to make them happy all time, adding that she would not be forgotten for her gestures.
"She is a good mother, always with us and what she is doing today is not strange to us, she has always been with us at all time, even attimes she visit us unnoticed and before leaving put smiles on our faces. I pray that God will continue to bless him", she emphasized.
In her remarks, Iyalode Alaba Lawson said the gesture was part of her own contributions as palliative measure in view of the lockdown against coronavirus.
The Ogun NUJ matron also announced the renovation of some buildings in the colony, assuring to hand over the projects upon completion.
The Iyalode equally pledged to buy working tools for their children who are artisans, adding that she would remain committed to the welfare of the downtrodden in the society, as part of her own social responsibility
Lawson extended gestures to hundreds of women in a social distancing arrangement, where the items were distributed to them, while the beneficiaries could not hold their excitement and joy as the distribution lasted.
