ABEOKUTA - Succour has come for residents of Abeokuta area of Ogun state, as lawmakers representing Abeokuta South State constituencies I and II, Hon. Yusuf Adejojo and Hon. Adeyemi Ademuyiwa distributed food items to them to cushion the effect of the lockdown in the state.
The lawmakers said the donation of relief materials was to support the local government's food bank as a way of cushioning the effect of the lockdown on residents.
Presenting the food items to the local government's transition committee chairman, Honourable Ayo Somide, Honourable Adejojo said, it was important to assist many vulnerable residents who can barely feed from hand to mouth especially at this critical period when the entire state will be locked down to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
Adejojo pleaded with the people to bear with the government over it's decision to lockdown the state, saying it was in the overall interest of the state.
The lawmaker promised to continue alleviating the suffering of the people through quality representation and provision of relief materials from time to time time.
He equally reminded residents to imbibe personal hygiene and remain indoors during the periods of the lockdown, saying its remained the best way to stop the spread of the pandemic.
On his part, Honourable Ademuyiwa urged people to remain calm and pay close attention to instructions and announcements from the state government during the periods of the lockdown.
He emphasized the need for the residents to practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings to stop the spread of the pandemic.
In his acceptance speech, Abeokuta south local government transition committee chairman, Hon. Ayo Shomide commended the good gesture of the lawmakers and assured that his administration would ensure even distribution of the donated food items.
He appreciated the lawmakers for putting the peoples first while calling on residents to continue to be law abiding.
