Gboyega Nasir Isiaka |
ABEOKUTA - The governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2019 governorship election in Ogun state, and a Chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka has cursed those accusing him of selling out in the last general elections.
GNI while appearing on a radio programme in Abeokuta on Thursday denied collecting money from neither Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu nor Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state before, during and after the election.
THE ENCOUNTER NEWS recall that during the build-up to the election, an alliance between Isiaka and Adekunle Akinlade of Allied People's Movement (APM) was proposed by leaders from Ogun West in order to boost the senatorial district's chances of producing a governor for the first time since 1976. Isiaka however rejected the alliance on the basis of principles.
Speculations thereafter rife that Isiaka who congratulated the then governor-elect, Abiodun may have been induced by APC stalwarts loyal to Abiodun to reject the alliance with Akinlade, the anointed candidate of former Governor, Ibiikunle Amosun.
He described as malicious, rumours that he collected money from notable leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to concede defeat at the 2019 elections.
The three-time governorship candidate, who officially joined the APC in January 2020, said the inducement rumours were sponsored by political foes and detractors who are intimidated by his profile and personality.
He challenged anyone with evidence of the bribery allegation to come out.
According to him, "I am reluctant to talk about this again having done so in the aftermath of that election. Those spreading the rumour are people who think money is everything, people with no values, people who want to protect their source of food and deliberately want to tarnish the good name and integrity God has helped us to build over the years. I pray that whoever saying this, by God's grace, they will suffer for it very soon.
“They said I collected money from our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Yemi Osibajo. Some said I collected money from HE Prince Dapo Abiodun for the election. On the contrary, I only ever spoke with Prince Dapo Abiodun just once and any rapport started after I congratulated him."
"Chief Bola Tinubu is a notable and respected politician in Nigeria and I respect him for that. I didn't collect any dime from Bola Tinubu. I will use this medium to state again that if this treacherous and wicked people have any evidence that I collected money from anyone directly or by proxy, they should come out and talk; and if otherwise, they and their sponsors should permanently keep quiet and cover thier faces in shame".
The Chairman, Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone said the detractors' agenda is also about future political possibilities.
"These things are also because of 2023. I have not decided nor declared any future ambition, yet they are running around". he noted.
"They know the truth but prefer to concoct lies and falsehood. I leave them in the hands of Almighty Allah who recompenses all men according to the works of their hands"; he added.
