ABEOKUTA - A frontline Ogun West socio-cultural group, Yewa North Patriotic Forum has described anyone working against the development of Federal government's Wasinmi Airport in Ewekoro local government area of Ogun state as an enemy of Ogun West.
The group equally noted that, the actualisation of the airport project is a blessing to Ogun West considering its proximity and enhance the socio-economic drive of the Yewa people.
The group spoke on Sunday following the controversy surrounding the airport and the insistence of the state government to site an Agro cargo airport at Ilisan-Iperu which was supported by the Lagos West Senator, Adeola Olamilekan Yayi.
THE ENCOUNTER NEWS reports that, the Senate Committee on Aviation at the weekend inspected the level of Wasinmi Airport fully funded by the federal government.
It would be recalled that, Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration in the state embarked on the establishment of the Wasinmi passengers airport in 2015.
While meeting with the Senate Committee on Aviation after inspecting the Agro cargo airport in the hometown of the governor, Ilisan-Iperu at the weekend, Governor Dapo Abiodun said the state does not need passengers but an Agro cargo airport.
This development has sparked off controversy among stakeholders in the state.
But the Yewa North Patriotic Forum while reacting to the statement credited to Governor Abiodun said there should not have been issue about the two projects because there was no controversy about their ownership.
YNPF in a press statement jointly signed by its President and General Secretary, Sanni Omobolaji and Fatolu Ganiu respectively wondered why anyone, especially the Lagos Senator, Solomon Adeola Yayi oppose the actualisation of the Wasinmi passenger Airport considering its proximity to Ogun West.
They said the involvement of Senator Yayi against the progress of the Wasinmi shows his true intention for Yewaland.
They however, called on the Lagos Senator to retrace his if truly he is for the progress of Ogun West.
"Only for Omoluabi attitude, unprintable words world have been used against the Lagos west Senator, Senator Solomon Adeola for his involvement in the airport in-fighting in Ogun state.
"YAYI as fondly called is said to be an Ogun west son although contended by many but for us as an association we accepted him as one of us and ready to push our own to any length until he chose to favour friendship with the Governor at the expense of his kinsmen.
"The controversy surrounding the desirability or otherwise of the Federal Government owned Wasinmi Airport has again exposed the real friends of Yewa people in Ogun West.
"The controversy was sparked by the visit of Senate Committee on Aviation which came to inspect the level of work on the project. The Committee also inspected the proposed Ilishan - Iperu Cargo Ariport owned by Ogun State Government.
"Ordinarily, there should not have been any issue about the two projects because there is no controversy about their ownership.
"While the Wasinmi Airport has been enjoying consistent funding by its owner, Federal Government, for almost 10 years; the proposed Ilishan - Iperu Cargo Airport has not enjoyed same attention from Ogun State Government. In fact, it hasn't gone beyond drawings, land clearing and largely approvals by relevant authorities according to the Governor, Dapo Abiodun himself.
"Why then should the Lagos senator and our own brother oppose the actualization of the passenger airport considering it proximity to us in Yewa land? This infuriates us and we are calling on Senator YAYI to retrace his step if truly he is one of us.
"Even if you must play politics why not advocate that both or one of the airports be situated in Yewaland? If Senator YAYI still want to continue to enjoy our support as his brothers, we urge him to ensure immediate withdrawal of his support against the actuality of the passenger airport, hence we might disown him.
"However, why should the Governor be referring to a Federal government project as a secrete? Why should the Governor be expecting a federal government project in a state handover note? And our YAYI could not fight for us.
"Why would Ogun State government now want the Federal Government jettision its project in Wasinmi for Ilishan - Iperu? Is there any law that says once Federal Government sites an Airport, the State Government cannot build its own?
"For us in Ogun West, Wasinmi Airport is a blessing as it will enhance the socio-economic drive of our people because it shares boundry with a community in Ogun West. Anyone calmouring for work to stop on Wasinmi Airport is an enemy of Yewa and Ogun West in general."
