Police Is The Least Corrupt Government Agency In Nigeria - DSP Oyeyemi

ABEOKUTA - Against the backdrop in some quarters that, Nigerian Police is the most corrupt government agency in the country, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi has disclosed that, the force remains one of the best in fighting corruption in the country. 

Oyeyemi stated this on Sunday at the 29 Anniversary of Prestige Newspaper and Celebration of Outstanding Achievers in Abeokuta.

The Police spokesperson said, the police is the least corrupt agency in Nigeria compared to other government agencies with a particular reference to civil servants.

He said rather than criticizing the police, security should be seen as everyone's business.

He explained further that, the people must attitudinal change towards the police and provide necessary information for the police to perform at optimal level. 

He further stated that, the campaign against the police as witnessed during the EndSARS protest was targeted to decimate the force by the criminals to carry out their devilish act, saying the frustrated attitude of the people was responsible for the way policemen operated.

"Security should be seen as everyone business. The people need to give police information. Nigerians are too nonchalant to security issues, before police can perform at optimal level, there must be attitudinal change from police and citizens

"I make bold to say without any form of contradiction, that Police is the least corrupt agency we have in Nigeria. How many police heads have you seen tried in this country?

"I'm not saying we have connection of angels in the force, we have bad eggs as well, but police have internal mechanism to sanitize the system. The protest was targeted to decimate the police to carry out their devilish act.

"We are paying lip service to security in this country. Police deserve all needed corporation. We usually compare American Police to that of Nigeria police. We have forgotten that we have different environment and people. The American citizens respect their uniform men despite the fact that, they have the technology to aid their operations. But here, the frustrated society also responsible for the way police operated.

"When people assaulted police officer, nobody condemns it,  but when a police officer retaliate, it is then you see all sort of headlines in the newspaper."
